Dear Lincoln Residents, I’m proud to be running for re-electionto the Planning
Board in this wonderful town of Lincoln, and I’m grateful forproductive
dialogue among residents about the many important issues that our townwill face
in the future. I have written before to let you know what I standfor, but after
receiving comments and feedback, I want to clarify some issues. There has been
a lot ofdiscussion about change in the town. Change always brings out strong
emotions. The fear of the unknown is unsettling. That’s why I think it is more
importantthan ever that we approach our upcoming challenges and opportunities
with atown wide process of:
- · Thorough research andsharing of the facts surrounding an issue
- · Transparent and openengagement with residents
- · Data-driven and fiscally-informed decision making.
I know the topics of additional and affordable housing are of greatfocus.
- I enthusiastically supported the revision the Planning Board is proposing
for Town meeting vote to ease restrictions for having accessory departments for
this reason.
- Let's find additional creative ways to increase affordable housing options
throughout town.
- Regarding rezoning areas for higherdensity housing, this is not equivalent
to increasing availability of affordable housing. Keep in mind that any new
development will likely be 85% market rate/luxury and 15% affordable.
For both increasing housing density AND affordable housing, lets:
· Hold public forumsto discuss the benefits that new/affordable housing
and increased density will bring to Lincoln andcarefully consider all feedback.
· Quantify the costs(economic, environmental, additional resources
needed) and consider these as keyelements of decision making. · NOT
put currentresidents at risk for being displaced from their homes.
I am notanti-development, nor anti-affordable housing. I am PRO thoughtful,
well-researchedplanning, which leads to making informed decisions regarding
development. To do so helps ensure the chances of meeting our goals. Todo
otherwise is presumptuous and irresponsible. As a Planning Board member, who
is elected, Irepresent you. I see myrole as seeking input from the residents of
the town, helping identify ourcommon goals, doing the homework on how to best
achieve them, and then, giving the town residents the final vote on whether to
implement the plan. Bottom line: I am committed to this town, to its future,
and itsresidents. I believe that by applying a process of rigorous planning and
townengagement, Lincoln can grow and evolve responsibly -- pursuing our
commongoals while maintaining the character that makes this such special place
tolive. If my approach seems sensible to you, please support me with your vote
on March 27. Thank you. Lynn DeLisi
