After yesterday's candidate forum, I am writing to express support for Peter Buchthal for the school committee because he appears to be the only candidate to put academics at the center of his priorities. As a parent of several children who have gone through Lincoln school, this has been my biggest concern with the school for the past 10+ years. It is also very much a question of equity. Many families in Lincoln have the resources to fill the gaps in the education that their children are receiving: private after school educational programs, tutoring, summer programs, etc. But for families that lack these resources, whatever they get from our public school is it. So out of fairness to those who are not in a position to supplement their child's education, the educational expectations and offerings of the public school program need to be high. Peter Buchthal would be a voice on the committee to help academics get the attention it deserves. Respectfully, Marc Herant
