Routine 20-year resurfacing of runway 5-23 will be done in two parts, starting with the southern end starting in June of this Summer. The paving trucks will be routed along Virginia road in Lincoln to the Airport road, and then route 2A to route 128. The paving trucks will be operating for 20 days during a 37 day period (daytime Monday-Friday only) and there will be about 100 truck loads (50 round trips) for each of those 20 days. The northern end of the runway will be paved next year, but the truck traffic will be routed through Bedford. The Lincoln police department will be responsible for project traffic safety.
This will be a major disruption for residents in the affected part of Virginia road but once it is complete this operation will not be repeated for 20 years. There will also be some changes to flight patterns resulting from the month long closure of this runway so some residents will hear more flights and some will hear less during this period. At the end of the project it is expected that flight patterns will return to normal. https://thebedfordcitizen.org/2023/03/bedford-escapes-most-of-this-summers-runway-resurfacing/ -- The LincolnTalk mailing list.
