Unscheduled Lincoln Transfer Station Closings
Pre-Planned & Emergency

Although uncommon, unscheduled Transfer Station closings may be necessary from
time to time. This may be due to inclement weather or other issues such as
power failure. The Lincoln Public Works Department, which is charged to
operate the facility, makes every effort to keep the Station open during normal
Wednesday and Saturday hours.

  *   Unscheduled Pre-Planned Closings:
Unscheduled Pre-Planned Transfer Station closings are mostly due to forecasted
major inclement weather events such as winter blizzards and hurricanes. Such
closures are determined after careful consideration of the upcoming weather
event. The closures are necessary for the safety of both the users of the
Transfer Station as well as staff.

It should also be noted that the DPW staff that operates the Transfer Station
may be needed elsewhere in Town to perform any necessary storm related
activities that may occur as a result of the inclement weather.

Notice of Unscheduled Pre-Planned Transfer Station closings will be advertised
as far in advance as possible on the Town Webpage, the Transfer Station
Webpage, Lincoln Talk, and the Lincoln Squirrel. A Reverse 911 call will also
be made.

  *   Emergency Closings:
Emergency Closings of the Transfer Station are rare but may occur due to
inclement weather or other unforeseen events. The Lincoln DPW subscribes to
various precision weather applications to aid in weather planning, however
there may be instances where un-forecasted weather necessitates closure.
Again, this is for the safety of the facility users and staff.

Emergency Transfer Station closings will be advertised as best as possible on
the Transfer Station Webpage and Lincoln Talk. Physical signs will be
installed at the Station and other key locations around Town notifying
residents of the closure. Public Safety will also be notified and a Reverse
911 call will be made.

We realize that closing of the Transfer Station may cause inconvenience for
some residents, but safety is our main priority. The Transfer Station is an
open-air facility that is subject to weather events of all types. In addition,
there is a tremendous amount of activity of users of all ages, many carrying
heavy bags, along with vehicular activity in a small area.
