In Lincoln, tree houses are considered ancillary structures and require a 
building permit, must meet set-back requirements from the property line and 
other regulations.  We've known a couple of families who got into trouble with 
unpermitted tree-houses.  Check with the Building Inspector's office as you 
begin your planning.
