I was going to suggest Paul at Spencer Brook Strings. We bought a violin
from him for our daughter and he is incredibly nice and may have options on
loans or a violin she could keep. He is very helpful in maintaining
instruments as well. Based in Maynard.

instrumental Angels collects violins and other instruments for donation:

The drop down menu under "Play Your Part" has "Instrument Requests". I'd
give them a try. One of their sponsors is Spencer Brook Strings, and they
might have some information if you can't get through to Instrumental
Angels. Paul at Spencer Brook fixes up donated violins for that group.
