To the Planning Board , the Selects and the HCA Working Group, My question is why the “rush to judgement?” Why is the vote being taken so soon after the presentation of the recommendations at SOTT, and only 3 questions taken after that presentation, and no subsequent public forum and open discussion? Other than a few comments made at the SOTT, me being one of them, there has been no give and take in a formal setting. After the presentation and the 3 questions/comments, we were asked to vote with “stickies.” That was the extend of public feedback.
Once I had time to fully process and reflect on the implications of the (excellent) presentation, and read other's comments and questions on LincolnTalk, I would like to retract my “sticky vote” until I can here responses from proponents to the subsequent questions raised. I wonder how many others might feel the same? I still believe that we need to rezone the Mall, but rezoning the other areas of South Lincoln seem problematic. The assurance that this is a decades long proposition is cold comfort. I do not think I want to leave this potential legacy of such dense development for future generations. There seem to be solutions to compliance, if that is deemed necessary. N.Lincoln/Battle Road Farm offer opportunities that will have limited impact on those residents as they will, collectively, determine their own destiny. One property owner cannot redevelop their single lot and have a deleterious impact on all other abutters. And, we can still add more housing at the Mall. Why is this not a win/win outcome? We need further discussion. We need a true open forum to hear each other, and to hear responses for the HCAWG…and they need to hear from us. Why the “rush to judgement?” This is tough.
