I offered to teach the real Mahjong but people only want to learn the American version!  I have the set of mahjong tiles.  It is a fun way to past the time, more or less like playing Bridge!

As I recall the game was secondary - it was all about chatting and gossip. Not quite Joy Luck Club but it served an important purpose.
