We wanted to do something similar at Thanksgiving, and what we learned is that everyone wants to volunteer in the holiday itself, and when they really need people is on other days. We thought it was most important not to do what WE wanted/needed, but what the shelters needed! So, we read deeply into a variety of websites and learned that the Pine Street Inn seeks people who will cook and deliver to them batches of 75, individually wrapped desserts. We spent Thanksgiving cooking brownies and cookies, and delivered them Friday morning. They have beds for 75 women each night, and 250-300 men, so if you can cook and bag 375 cookies or brownies, that covers everyone. Of course you can do less (we ended up doing 75 cookies and 75 brownies and put one of each in every ziplock sandwich bag. Much appreciated! - Sent from iPhone. Typed by thumb. Excuse misspellings!
