Lincoln-Sudbury School Committee LSSC - Letter to the Community: December 6, 2023 Greetings from the LS School Committee. We find ourselves well into the second quarter and wish to provide updates on the ongoing efforts of the LS School Committee to support and strengthen our school district. The Committee approved its annual goals, focusing on collaboration with our community, students, and staff to maintain a safe and enriching educational experience throughout the 2023-2024 school year. These goals are available here <http://track.spe.schoolmessenger.com/f/a/rgcmUa7_5BguctZm7ydvPg~~/AAAAAQA~/RgRnUvxuP0RCaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubHNyaHMubmV0L2Ntcy9PbmUuYXNweD9wb3J0YWxJZD04ODg0MDMmcGFnZUlkPTIxNzAxMTcwVwdzY2hvb2xtQgplaO7IcWXGFODnUhNsbW1hdWxzYnlAZ21haWwuY29tWAQAAAAB> on our website. A few highlights from our work over the last few months include: - Our Committee is committed to using school policies, the budget and community oversight to ensure LS is a safe environment where all our students can reach their highest potential. To support this we are working in partnership with our new Superintendent/Principal Andrew Stephens and staff to define and narrow gaps in student experiences, opportunities, and academic outcomes as well as track and improve the overall mental health of students. - Recognizing the importance of increasing the community's understanding of the School Committee’s role and responsibilities, one of our goals is to enhance communication and engagement with our communities in Boston, Lincoln, and Sudbury. To facilitate this, we have initiated listening hours, open to all community members. The next session, hosted remotely by Committee members Cara Endyke Doran and Cathie Bitter, is scheduled for December 18th from 6:00pm-7:00pm. Please keep an eye out for the announcement and link. - In line with LS’ strategic priority to create an inclusive school climate that fosters a sense of belonging and connectedness, the first year of the LS Advisory Program is now in progress and going well. The Committee was briefed on the program’s current status on November 8, 2023. You can access a copy of the presentation on our website here <http://track.spe.schoolmessenger.com/f/a/sWz5bvkGkh_s-YE_g3p7Rw~~/AAAAAQA~/RgRnUvxuP0RUaHR0cHM6Ly9kb2NzLmdvb2dsZS5jb20vZG9jdW1lbnQvZC8xQk9tNzJBcXQtYnAtR2dRdno3Q0hxd2lSZG02VkE3QmVhYzZkVW5FbjlzNC9lZGl0VwdzY2hvb2xtQgplaO7IcWXGFODnUhNsbW1hdWxzYnlAZ21haWwuY29tWAQAAAAB> . - LS remains committed to delivering comprehensive social-emotional support services for all our students at LS. The Student Services Department provided an update to the Committee on November 21, 2023, detailing the accessible social and emotional support services for LS families. Further information on these programs can be found in the presentation on our website here <http://track.spe.schoolmessenger.com/f/a/dBFfGtPzj_1WMeh-AmPdow~~/AAAAAQA~/RgRnUvxuP0RUaHR0cHM6Ly9kb2NzLmdvb2dsZS5jb20vZG9jdW1lbnQvZC8xaVJ1bk9kcm5tMjlsTnpadHMwX18zbDZwTGlDdkQ2LUxFeHMyZXl1QW1oOC9lZGl0VwdzY2hvb2xtQgplaO7IcWXGFODnUhNsbW1hdWxzYnlAZ21haWwuY29tWAQAAAAB> . - Finally, we are entering into the budget season! Superintendent Stephens presented the first draft budget to the School Committee on December 5th. We will share the LS budget to Lincoln and Sudbury Financial Committees on 12/6, 12/11, and 12/18. We will be hosting a public forum on the budget in January 2024. Please stay tuned for more information. As always, I appreciate input from our families. Please do not hesitate to reach out. Sincerely, Cara Endyke Doran <[email protected]> LSSC Chair Lincoln-Sudbury Regional School District
