I stand corrected on outages. I will still advocate for investment in our own muni.
In the usual case, when Lincoln has outages of 1/2 day or more, Concord does not. When they do, they are usually in isolated locations and quickly repaired. It is because they have invested in creating a grid, much of it buried, to be resilient. They have a system where areas are divided and if one goes out, the others remain online. And the outage is reported to ac central station and not dependent on resident reporting. This past storm must have broken through all that resiliency where usually it offers great protection. At least that was what was described to the Selected in the 2009 or so. At the time wer were in discussion, they had professional “excess capacity” so that we would not need to create our own staffing and billing, etc. There were legislative hoops that needed clearing and then we needed to buy the infrastructure from EverSource. As we talk about bringing our town up to date, perhaps this critical piece of infrastructure might be worth some discussion. As it stands, if you are fragile and do not have great resources, and cannot afford a generator, you are in the cold and dark. The lack of attention to this only makes the wealth gap here greater. ------ Sara Mattes > On Dec 19, 2023, at 4:34 PM, Bill Mullett <[email protected]> wrote: > > Belmont Light reported extensive outages on X formerly Twitter. > > From: Lincoln <[email protected]> on behalf of Sara Mattes > <[email protected]> > Date: Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 7:46 AM > To: Lincoln Talk <[email protected]> > Subject: [LincolnTalk] Outage Map | Eversource > > As we are told by Eversource that this outage will be a multi- day event, we > might note that Concord, Belmont and towns with town muni- electrics have no > outages. > Why? > They make investments in infrastructure and resilience and not shareholders. > Customers are the shareholders. > Perhaps we should return to discussing the idea of becoming a muni- electric > town. > Let’s make this kind of an investment in infrastructure that will be a truly > worthwhile gift to generations to come. > > > https://outagemap.eversource.com/external/default.html > > Sent from my iPhone > -- > The LincolnTalk mailing list. > To post, send mail to [email protected] > <mailto:[email protected]>. > Browse the archives at https://pairlist9.pair.net/mailman/private/lincoln/. > Change your subscription settings at > https://pairlist9.pair.net/mailman/listinfo/lincoln. >
