Hi, I am just following up on the stolen bike alert we received on Monday this week to let you know that I have not been able to get further information. I have called all of the surrounding police departments and they said that they had nothing reported on Monday. I called the company from which the message came, and they said that the message was from someone local (within 1.9 miles) but that all clients are anonymous. We live within 1.9 miles of Sudbury, Wayland and Concord. The police said that someone local could have sent this message out after an attempt, but never reported it to the police. I cannot verify that it is not a hoax, but I do know that others in Lincoln emailed me and had received the same alert. That said, I did not ask the police to check the logs from over the past weekend. I apologize if I caused people to become overly concerned, however, with it being the bike to school week here, I wanted to be sure that people were careful to keep bikes locked up and safe - just in case. I often don’t learn about any crime in Lincoln, unless it is posted on Facebook (Lincoln Police page). Many people do not use social media - and rely on word of mouth. In the fall, we had our mail stolen, and I know that there have been burglaries in Lincoln within the year. The mail thief (who was identified, thanks to the hard work of the Lincoln Police) tried to cash a check from our mail and also intercepted holiday gift cards (never to be found). One police officer I spoke with said that everyone should be sure to lock bikes (or garage them) and to also be vigilant locking vehicles, during the day and at night.
Again, sorry for any unnecessary anxiety, but that was not my intention. Best, Margo Martin
