It's non-native in Mass and may be "thuggish" to borrow an apt phrase from Robin Wilkerson but it is not state listed as invasive.

Yes, and Ajuga Repetans or Bugleweed is invasive in Massachusetts so it should be pulled unfortunately. Or maybe a weed wacker could take care of it.

CMC Design and Trowel & Spade Sent from my iPhone This is ajuga repetans. It is native to England, but not here. It will spread throughout your lawn given a chance. It’s really pretty. You will have patches of this throughout your yard, and the grass won’t grow there. I’m trying to decide whether to leave it or to dig it up, which is easy. I have been putting it in my flowerbeds, but it seems to prefer growing in the lawn. 🙄 A small patch of these flowers appeared in my yard a few years ago. This year several more patches of them popped up as well as individual plants scattered around the yard - perhaps due to last year's attempt at No Mow May. They are about 6-10" tall, and bees seem to be liking them.
Does anyone know what they are......and if they are friends or foes?
