FWIW, when my prescription plan hits the so-called donut hole, Good Rx helps a lot to lower my regular refills. Probably extends the length of time in IN the donut hole since that is based on a coverage, but psychologically at least and ironically given the context, it reduces the pain!

30 grams of Tacrolimus Ointment is $37.50 on Cost Plus Drugs (costplusdrugs.com). 80 grams is $87
Drug prices at drug stores are sometimes a mind bogglingly huge ripoff.
I have a prescription drug that is covered by my insurance and substantially cheaper for me on Cost Plus Drugs even though Cost Plus does not take my insurance!!!

Hi Susan (et al)

The NYT had an interesting piece on Rx costs recently (see link below).

Among other things, It references Good Rx and Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs as resources for lower Rx prices.  While purchases through these places are paid directly—not through insurance (so therefore would likely not be applied to a deductible if there is one)—the prices are considerably lower and qualify as FSA or HSA expenses.  Or, in the case of the family you mentioned, if the med is simply noncovered (and would therefore be out of pocket anyway) this could be a good way to go.

I looked up the drug you mentioned in your email—and while I don’t know the details of the particular Rx’s strength etc, here is a link to what I found on Good Rx:

The same family in Taunton who is struggling. The 9 year old has a skin issue that is treated only with the above ointment.
However the ointment costs $400 - Mass Health won?t pay for it- and the mother can?t even pay her bills.likely he?ll need $800 - $1200 for the drug.
Anyone have access to this drug or want to make a contribution and pay for the drug?

I?m ready for another vacation!
Susan
