Lincoln Land Conservation Trust (Bryn) ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: MCA-CISMA <[email protected]> Date: Fri, Aug 23, 2024 at 2:14 PM Subject: Invasive Plant Action Alert To: <[email protected]> Japanese Hops Be On the Look Out for Japanese Hops Humulus japonicus We have unfortunately been hearing reports of invasive Japanese hops spreading quickly this summer, in particular along some new rail trails still under construction and from mulch. Japanese hops is a sprawling annual vine native to eastern Asia. The leaves are large with typically 5-7 lobes and rough to the touch. They have already started to flower so fast action is need if you have it. The goal is to stop the plant from going to seed so we can prevent a seed bank from building up. You can manage this plant by pulling, mowing or selective herbicide treatment. If you do have it keep a eye on the area for a few years to make sure nothing else has sprouted.
