Coming Up at the AIC (and beyond)


Lots happening at the AIC! Learn how to make a piped pillow cover or a special weaving technique for bracelets; stop by for some LIVE music or (new at the AIC) drop by for Coffee & Crafts- bring your own project from home to work on and we'll provide the coffee and tea. Beyond the AIC, check out WBUR's list of the top 13 local art exhibits to visit this winter or take the littles to a hilarious musical adaptation of David Pilkey's Cat Kid Comic Club. AIC Advisory Board Opening

Letters of Interest due Jan 31


The Town of Weston has an opening on the Art & Innovation Center Advisory Board. The Advisory Board can be made of up to 14 people, 5 of whom serve on the Executive Committee. Board members may or may not be Weston residents. The Board benefits from a variety of skills and experience and especially seeks to add from the following professional areas to provide guidance and connect the Board with a network of professional contacts: development, fundraising or grant writing experience; financial management experience. Letters of interest are due Jan 31. Tech Certifications: 3D Printer, Laser Cutter, Cricut Maker

Wed & Fri, By Appointment


Tech certifications are available by appointment. Learn the basics of either the 3D printer, laser cutter, or Cricut in a one-hour crash course at the AIC. Certifications can be held for one or two people. Cost is $25 per person and payment will be collected on the day of the class by card or cash. 3D printing and Cricut certifications can be adapted for children 6-12 years old. Child(ren) must be accompanied by an adult.

Linen and Velvet Pillow (Two Spots Left!)

10am-12:30pm



Learn to make a Piped Pillow Cover. In this class, you will add velvet piping to natural linen and set a zipper to make a custom pillow cover. The skills learned in this class will allow you to make pillow covers in various sizes and fabrics that suit your personal décor. Natural-colored linen and several velvet piping colors will be available. 

Fundamentals of Machine Sewing or the ability to thread a sewing machine and wind a bobbin is a pre-requisiteRegistration closes Jan 27.

Drop in and join other makers in the Loft to make crafts and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea! Bring your own project and enjoy some time with other crafters and creatives. Supplies and instruction will not be provided. Coffee and tea will be offered!
 

Reading Room Music: Kat Chapman

The Reading Room Music Series is thrilled to welcome singer-songwriter Kat Chapman!  Kat’s musical journey has taken her from Boston street performing roots to stages shared with the likes of Boz Scaggs, John Sebastian, Chris Isaak and Joan Armatrading. Kat’s style of soulful, acoustic-rock Americana performances are stripped down yet flourish, whether at a loud bar or an intimate listening room. Kumihimo Techniques: Friendship Bracelets

Thurs, Feb 6
10am-12:30pm


Join us to learn Kumihimo, a traditional Japanese weaving technique created on a disc. In this class, you will experiment with 8-cord patterns using cording in various colors. You will go home with your finished 8-cord bracelets, a custom Kumihimo disc (laser cut at the AIC), and clear step-by-step instructions. Other Kumihimo disks and bobbins will be available to be used independently during Open Maker HoursRegistration closes Feb 3.

Galentine's Lipstick Reading with Lydia Dustin

What is a psychic lipstick reading? You apply lipstick, kiss a piece of paper and learn about what your lip imprint says about you. Always positive and uplifting, Lydia’s readings are always a hit. Space is limited, buy your tickets early! This is great Galentine’s Day activity for you and your closest girlfriends! Registration closes Feb 3. This is a 21+ event.

Cricut: Valentine's Day Cards

Using 3 different colors of paper and one simple shape, students will use the Cricut machine to take one basic shape and turn it into 9 cards. The use of the shape, copy, duplicate, and attach functions will be covered. Students will explore using the negative spaces to further the design. Registration closes Feb 4.

Machine Sewing Certification: Tote Bag

10am-12:30pm



Join us for this fun and informative Machine Sewing Certification class and make a Tote Bag. Upon completing this class, you will be certified to use the AIC sewing machines independently during Open Maker Hours. No machine sewing experience is required, but you will gain sewing experience by making this tote bag. An assortment of materials will be available to choose from. Registration closes Feb 5.

Family Drop-In: Slime Lab

Sat, Feb 8
10am-1pm

Why make a mess at home? Come to the AIC and create your own custom slime! We have all the supplies you’ll need to become slime scientists. Choose your own color, add-ins, and create your own perfect slime. All ages are welcome. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. No registration needed. Cost: $15 at the door

 

Teen Open Mic Night

We are thrilled to host Teen Open Mic Nights at the AIC the second Wednesday of every month. These events are open to HS students who want to have a unique performing experience sharing music, poetry, comedy, monologues, dance or even some covers in front of friends and family. Register here (registration closes at 5pm the day of).
 

Laser Cutter Certification: 3D Puzzles

Did you know that you can cut 3D puzzles on a laser cutter?

In this class, you will learn how to safely operate a laser cutter to cut plywood. You will be introduced to Lightburn software and create two “puzzles” to bring home with you. This introductory course on laser cutting is great for beginners as well as those who have completed certification but are looking for a little practice.
