Hello, Lincoln Talk. Enjoy a musical start to your 250th celebration (unless you've already started)! Boston composer William Billings (1746-1800) and many others wrote dozens of a cappella choral pieces, mostly in four-part harmony, with the aim of teaching music and improving the standard of congregational singing in New England parishes. Some works were hymns, some laments or dirges, some lengthy anthems with Biblical texts, some marching tunes (maybe sung by our own Minute Men), some exuberant expressions of patriotism (after we'd won the war). Hear this music brought to life on Sunday, March 30 by the group Norumbega Harmony, founded at Wellesley College (hence the name) in the 1970s by singing master Professor Stephen Marini, who will also entertain with commentary on the songs. All ages are welcome.
