We have had success reducing the tick population by making tick tubes (cotton
balls soaked with permethrin and stuffed in empty toilet paper rolls) and
placing them around the yard. These attract tick-carrying mice who use the
cotton in their nests (often in my garden shed!). It's a very targeted
solution.
