I am currently uncertain how I will vote in the special town meeting, but there is certainly one thing worth pondering. In the Wall Street Journal 4 or 5 years ago, it was stated that multi-family housing (6 stories or more) costs 17 1/2 times more to build than single family housing. I am sure that number is slightly different now, but it is certainly still in the ball park. Let's give Civico some slack and say the current number is 15 times. So why isn't Civico bidding to rebuild the Mall? It is because they would make 15 times less per square foot for the same amount of single family housing in the Nature Link project.
