Dear LincolnTalk,

For the past few weeks there have been discussion threads about Town
Meeting agenda items, which, over time, seem to become more heated and
closer-to or over the line of civility. As moderators, we acknowledge we
could have been more proactive about asking people to take debates offline.
It might have helped to calm things down a bit. As we can't go back, the
only way is forward.

We are just plain tired of trying to keep up with all that's flying and in
attempting to keep the posts civil. Many of you would be shocked to see
some of the email replies we get accusing us of censorship - some quite
rude. With two weeks to go before TM, we're going to bring LincolnTalk back
to its roots as a community bulletin board (for free, for sale, who knows a
plumber, come to my event, &etc.) - rather than a community soap box
(political talk).

>From this point forward, all those who have posts which come through
moderation, if you post something of a political nature, your post will be
rejected (this is your heads-up). For those who are not on moderation, if
you post something political, you will be placed on moderation (THIS IS
YOUR WARNING). If you're not sure, send your post to the moderators for
input ([email protected]). We do invite the Town to post any TM
logistical updates.

If people are adamant about wanting a place to discuss town politics, we
suggest you start your own forum and let people know about it (you can
announce it in a post on LincolnTalk).

Following TM, we will reexamine how things are going... and will likely
open things back up, but no guarantee - it depends on how the hiatus goes.

Please, let's all give each other some grace around this.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Yours,
Margit - for the Moderators
