Greetings from Acme Theater!

Acme Theater Announces Its 2025/2026 Season: Big Laughs, Big Heart, and a Whole
Lot of Fun

This season we’re serving up tender romance, moral quandaries, wild
misunderstandings, and a nursing home in full-blown meltdown. It’s like
Shakespeare met Scooby-Doo, had dinner with Tennessee Williams, and invited you
to watch the whole thing unfold. It’s weird. It’s wonderful. It’s Acme.

Here’s what’s coming to the Acme stage:

Maytag Virgin
by Audrey Cefaly
October 24-November 8, 2025
Directed by Kristin Hughes

Maytag Virgin is a tender, character-driven play by Audrey Cefaly that follows
the evolving relationship between two neighbors in a small Southern town.
Lizzy, a recently widowed schoolteacher, and Jack, a quiet newcomer also
dealing with loss, slowly form a connection as they navigate grief, healing,
and the possibility of new love. Filled with humor, warmth, and emotional
depth, the play explores how two people can find hope and companionship in the
wake of personal tragedy.

Lobby Hero
by Kenneth Lonergan
January 23-February 7, 2026
Directed by Dave Sheppard

Lobby Hero is a sharp, character-driven play by Kenneth Lonergan that explores
themes of morality, loyalty, and truth. Set in the lobby of a New York City
apartment building, the story follows Jeff, a young, aimless security guard who
becomes entangled in a complex situation involving his strict supervisor, a
rookie cop, and her overbearing partner. As personal and professional
boundaries blur, each character is forced to confront difficult choices about
honesty, integrity, and doing the right thing in a world where answers aren’t
always clear.

Unnecessary Farce
by Paul Slade Smith
April 3-April 18, 2026
Directed by Kevin Nessman

Unnecessary Farce is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud comedy by Paul Slade Smith
that combines classic farce elements with a modern twist. The plot follows two
inexperienced cops who set up a sting operation in a cheap motel to catch a
corrupt mayor—but things spiral hilariously out of control. With mistaken
identities, slammed doors, a hitman in a kilt, and escalating
misunderstandings, the play delivers non-stop physical comedy and witty
dialogue, making it a favorite for audiences seeking pure entertainment.

Losing Patients
by A. Duke and Virginia Cate
June 5-June 20, 2026
Directed by Kelsey McDonough

Losing Patients is a madcap comedic farce by A. Duke and Virginia Cate set in
the Silver Crest Manor—a once respected nursing home besieged by all manner of
chaos. A violent thunderstorm rages outside, while inside a drug dealer is on
the loose, an escaped mental patient is hunted by the police, and a trio of
scheming scoundrels spin a web of identity theft and deception. As patients
mysteriously vanish and impostors emerge, the confusion—and hilarity—escalates
through mistaken identities, double-dealing, and surprise twists. Hold onto
your walkers: Losing Patients blends outrageous physical comedy with unexpected
plot turns right up to its surprise finish.
