I’mresponding to the recent posting from Jane Appell seeking help with
outdoorlighting. Lincoln property owners should make themselves aware that
Lincolnby-laws restrict the amount and type of outdoor lighting. Since 2014 the
Townhas moved toward The Dark Skies Initiative.  This is a globalmovement aimed
at reducing light pollution to protect and restore natural nightenvironments.
These efforts involve promoting responsible outdoor lightingthat minimizes
glare, upward-directed light, and bluish light.  Lincoln’sDark Skies committee
promotes educating Lincoln on the benefits of safely preserving dark skies for
human health.

NationalGeographic says that 80% of the US population can no longer see the
Milky Waydue to light pollution.

Beforeyou do any outdoor lighting, or to see if your existing outdoor lighting
iscompliant, check out Lincoln’s Planning Board “Lighting Guidelines” at

 Let’skeep Lincoln safely dark!
