Dear Lincoln Talk, What a year it has been. On the home front, we faced many challenges and are still working through a profound loss. We are deeply grateful to the many people who offered their time, care, and support during this difficult period. On the farm front, we experienced lower-than-expected yields and an unusually early frost that shortened the harvest season. In addition, earlier announcements of federal funding cuts for small farms like Hannan Healthy Foods prompted us to think carefully about how to sustainably build and grow our future. Despite these challenges, there was much to celebrate. We were thrilled to partner with MIT to provide students with hands-on farm experiences. Through this collaboration, 260 bags and boxes of fresh, organic vegetables were distributed to—and enthusiastically received by—students across campus. For the second year in a row, we also supported a Cambridge public school’s farmstand fundraiser, helping to raise nearly $400 to fund students’ annual school farm trip. With the help of a few dedicated volunteers braving cold New England winter days, we even built a much-needed new storage shed on the farm. We also successfully raised funds through GoFundMe to support additional infrastructure projects that will help extend our operation.
