We at the Sumateran Orangutan Society were very pleased to learn of
Jumat " Joe" Dulhajah's letter.
He is absolutely right that the electricity cables are causing real
problems at the Bohorok Orangutan Centre. Last year one ape, Joni was
really badly hurt from a live electricity cable and another ape Dahlia
died after being electrocuted. Anything we can do to help this situation
we gladly will. The electricity cables could easily be installed on the
other side of the river and not in the Park. The route the cable takes
is a short cut to Ariko Inn the only other reason for having the cable
there is to provide electricity for POngo Resort.. Since the guest house
' Pongo Resort "opened in 1997 there have been an increase in the number
of orangutan problems.
