I have a brand-new QuickTime installer issue.
I'm working on a desktop app. It's about 80 MB, but we're not distributing
it on CD-ROM. It's a downloaded app.
Here's the issue. Apple requires you to direct the user to the Apple Web
page for anything downloaded. Our client (Very Big Name) absolutely won't
agree to that.
Annoying, isn't it? As we all know, Windows users are going to change over to Mac because you've forced them to go to the Apple website and perform a lengthy DL before they even get to the installer, and they just fell in *love* with that eMac ad while they were waiting.
It's like Jobs is running the place again.
Does anybody know a way around that? Our only other option is Flash video
(it's going to be streaming, one way or another).
Good option. We've pretty much dumped QT at this point in favor of FLV. Sorenson Squeeze does a great job - the quality is just as good as QT. You have to work around the lack of cuepoints (if you need that) and multiple tracks, but those are easy hacks.
dos centavos, Kurt
