Hi all, this is what I think could be a very simple question, but actually seems to be a very difficult one.
I have Dir 8.5 for PC and MAC. Until now, I did cross platform CD-ROMs with those. Now I am forced to use Dir MX2004. So I upgraded on the Win side, but didn't on the MAC side, because normally I don't need Macs. I tried the cross platform projector creation feature. While it seems to be easy as long as only Macromedia xtras are involved, the use of third party xtras poses lots of questions. Why is there almost no documentation about it? From the MACR docs I learned that you have to edit xtrainfo.txt and put the MAC xtras in the cross platform resources folder. B U T : "Macintosh Xtras must have both a data fork and a resource fork. ... For each Macintosh Xtra extension, two files are created: one for the data fork and one for the resource fork. The names for these files must be the same as the original Xtra extension name with a suffix: ".data" for the data fork and ".rsrc" for the resource fork. Both of these files are placed in the /Cross Platform Resources/Macintosh/Xtras/ folder of the Windows Director installation." For my project I have to use: DirectImageXtra buddyAPI Xtra propsave Xtra fileXtra4 None of those Xtras is delivered as two separate files (.data / .rsrc). So why is it that the MACR docs don't explain where I can get those two files? They just say: "two files ARE CREATED". Are they? But who creates them and how does he create them? I searched the internet and found a shareware utility, (splitMacXtra). I tried it, but it didn't work on a MAC running OS9. (I have no other ...) I am rather frustrated. Does anyone of you know, how the .data and .rsrc-files can be created? And second question: Has anyone of you guys ever succeeded in making a cross platform cd-rom with the windows version of Dir MX2004 using third party xtras? Thanks for any help!
