No, it's my understanding that baShortFileName is for all win machines. I always use shortFileName=baShortFileName(<absolute path>&longFileName) then do my operations on the shortFileName. (old habits?)
What this doesn't explain, is why baOpenFile would fail only *sometimes*- hmmmmm....
