I would NOT trust anything on Mac OSX before 10.2. That's when it became stable enough for the average person.

It would be worth it for you to immediately upgrade to at least 10.2.8 (that's what I'm running - very stable). If your hardware can run it, upgrade to whatever the current version of 10.3 is.
