how about a creative commons license?
you wont earn a dollar on every cd-rom sold,
but it protects your work, and ensures you that if people re-use (parts of) your work,
they also [should] credit you as the initial creator.
this doesn't make money floud in your direction,
but it might just as well make your phone ring for another assignment tomorow,
and maybe the next day too.. and the next day..
i think CC is a good way to share stuff,
and at the same time give others a possibilty to learn-from/re-use/built-further-on
something you created, while they are mentioning you..
wether it be music, painting, lingo or literature

Hi List,
I've got a question which concerns copyrights. I'm starting developing a
cdrom of which the content is all xml based. I also will create a php/mysql
backend which allows the client to create new cdroms for different clients
of him (he'll sell the cdroms as personalized gifts).
My client asked me about my copyright ideas, but well, I do not have any.
I'm going to do the job for very little money, so I do not want to give up
more then I need. I think the client would like to have all the copyrights.
I told him he could have the sourcecode of the mysql/php backend (I wouldn't
know how to keep that btw), but that I had to think of the Lingo source code
(I think I feel better to distribute compiled and protected dxr's). And of
course of the distribution rights. It wouldn't be fair if I just get once a
little money and then he can sell it over and over and over again, gaining
money of it, or is it?
How do you handle these questions?
Thanks in advance for your advice, Benjamin
