no answer to your question, but maybe at one time you'll be that
frustrated about the Tree Flash Component that you are looking for
alternatives, so I thought I let you know about an imaging lingo based
tree component ("Tree Class") that I've wrritten a couple of weeks ago.
It's at

It's a parent script, and some demo "child scripts" that show how to
extend the main class with features like XML binding, file system
listings etc.
There is also a online demo at

It's still kind of rough and not thoroughly tested, but maybe you find
it inspriring enough to be willing do your own refinements.
