You could try the (undocumented) setContentsAfter() and setContentsBefore() methods of the Text Xtra which inserts a string, but preserves the formatting of the existing content of the textmember.

unfoprtunately you can only append a string.
while it is very useful, that it preserves the existing formatting and links, it won't append formatted text with links, instead all the appended text will be formatted like the char preceeding the position, where the string was appended.

has anybody already mentioned, that the text xtra is in urgent need of an overhaul ? concatenating two textchunks would be very welcome, when we are at this point.
