Hi everybody, I was wanting to ask your advice on a 3d project I have
been working on which is running dog slow and using most of my CPU ;)

Basically I have developed an application with shockwave which allows
you to build yourself.

Ie you can choose your body, eyes, nose, ears etc, all these things are
configurable.

Each 'body component' is a separate model which allows me to turn each
on/off in turn.

I also have animations which your character performs all the time.

So the character could be waving at you or jumping up and down etc, all
while you can change any features.

My problem is that it runs really slow. I have read that render speed
falls dramatically when number of models goes up, I have about 160. It
also has a total of about 80,000 polys.

But at the same time after you have chosen your features the actual
number of models DISPLAYED on the screen is more like 5/6, so not much
at all. ie you can't show all the noses at the same time!

I was just looking for some advice if anybody has done something similar
before.

I see all these games zipping around in director so I know it can go run
things fast but I am unsure of my next step. Its pretty unusable at the
moment due to the speed constraints. (its also rather big, might have to
reduce the quality or store some other way....)

Thanks in advance

.:Alan:.
