The DLLBinder and DLLBinderPro Xtras at
http://www.the-mindseye.co.uk/prog/prog.shtml can interface Director
with (almost?) any DLL - although the arcane nature of getting data
typing right to do that can be a bit of a pain. A custom Xtra may still
be a better option, but I just wanted to let you know that that option
is out there.
(I have no affiliation with them - I have used the Xtra, that's all.)

Anyone interested in developing an Xtra to talk to Smart Card readers?
I've tried using some activeX I've found on the web but it's not a happy
option with Director, it works ok until it gets hungry and ends up eating my
cards:)
I've got a fair bit of example code in C++, Delphi and VB...I reckon it's
just a simple wrapper around "Winscard.dll" that's required.
What I need is a really basic communication with the most basic of all
SmartCards (SLE4442) but I think there could be a lot of mileage with such
an extra especially for kiosk apps.
Let me know if interested, and I'll send the resource I have.
