let's say your movie is 800 x 600; on a painting software, create an image 
the same size, fill it with black, transform it to 1 bit, save it (or just 
copy it). open director, create a 1 x 1 pixel movie, import the 1 bit 
bitmap (or paste it), name it "mask", and on a frame script, put the 
following lines:

(the stage).visible = false
window(mymainmovie).windowtype = member("mask")
open window mymainmovie

of course all the application will run as a miaw, so, be aware to make all 
the changes it may require.
anyway, no more black border. ah yes, if u want to use full screen, don't 
set the visible of the stage to false.
anyway, it's only an overview.
