Well, that's interesting -- I suspect this might be a
browser-dependent thing. For instance on MacOSX.1, I can set up my
browser to handle different language and charsets in a desired order
of display preference. If I hit a page whose charset is not included
in my pre-defined list, I see question marks where the text should be.
My guess would be that the browser settings are overriding what your
Shockwave file can display. If that is the case there is probably
very little you cna do about it, because there's not much an embedded
applet can do to change the environment under which it operates.
Perhaps you could include an ASCII message suggesting that if the
user sees garbage onscreen, he could download the necessary font?
