It's cute! One thought about your editable field issue, how about making it more graphical? The user would type letters, and a plan view of Scrabble letters would form to make what the user types. It would take away a bit from the punch line of the Scrabble board being filled in, but at least the user wouldn't be looking around for where the entry field was located.
