I'd start by looking over the Lingo by Feature part of the Lingo 
docs. On page 28 there are several commands listed which obviously 
let you set playlist and queue characteristics. Since the playlist is 
actually a Director property list, I'd think setting it to [] or [:] 
would have the effect of clearing sounds.

These are guesses, of course. I've never really done a lot with the 
sound handling aspects of Director. I think that's a holdover of the 
bad old days, pre-7, when sound management was considerably less than 
optimal. PuppetSound and sound playFile were basically all we had. 
And we had to walk a mile through snow -- barefoot -- to get to work, 
and we were *thankful* for it, by gum.
