Thanks for that. I SWEAR it wasn't in the lingo dictionary when I looked before ;-) On a related subject, how do people find the documentation with Director? I personally find it doesn't match up to the high quality you would expect in a product of this quality that costs so much! Luckily, I won my copy of Director in a competition, but if I had just paid �1000+ I would expect it to be properly documented. This is a perfect example - the command you told me about was not listed in the help files as either related to pointToChar() (it should be, since it is basically the opposite command) or even on the Lingo by Feature > Text page. A large number of posts to this list have the simple answer, 'look at xxxx in the Lingo Dictionary' - which implies that either people don't check first, or can't find it when they DO check. I know I was the latter. Other people on my course (I am a final year university student in multimedia design) also find the help distinctly unhelpful, one person has a whole list of errors in the example code (mainly 3D stuff). I'm also not a fan of HTML help files, I much prefer the Windows style ones, if nothing else, for just for being able to type the first few letters of a command to scroll straight to it. It seems to be a step backwards for usability!
