Yes, this is a pain, matching shapes & bitmaps.
You may find that the #shape snaps to a slightly different hue than the #bitmap, when 
the monitor is set to 16-bits.

If we are talking about a one-color background shape, then I suggest making a 1-bit 
black bitmap instead.
Then apply the desired color directly to the sprite.

As for the snap looking darker in Photoshop - check your PS color settings.
Either Color Management Off or Web Graphics default, is what I use.
(sRGB, Gamma 2.2).

Specs: W2K, Dir 8.5.1, PS 7.0
