I was asking about where the files were create to make sure you were looking for the right hex values. One tricky thing about the process is that the same sequence can appear in your data, for example in the middle of a bitmap. You should look at the example hex in the article very carefully, if you find the first sequence of hex, the pair of two entries that you need to change are soon after. You wouldn't search for the two entries themselves. In going from 8.5 to 8.0, you would find the sequence 44 52 43 46, and then change the two occurrences of the 07 3A that appear soon after. You would change them to be 06 40. The article talks about changing them to 05 7E, but that's for if you want to revert the file to Director 7.
