Not true. Flash MX is the first version to support Unicode. Flash 5 supported Latin-1 and Shift JIS character sets but not all Unicode or true Unicode. The authoring tool still doesn't support Unicode fully. In some cases, you need to edit the text in an external file and then import it to get the Unicode into Flash. Can't Director MX just use Flash assets to garner Unicode support? Granted, you might not want to have the "Flash in Director" layer, but it should be possible.
