I have an older movie, updated to MX, with some editable fields. I've tried to turn off autotab for the fields, but nothing seems to work. I've set autotab to FALSE for the cast members in the in the beginSprite, startMovie, exitframe, and the Property Inspector (just to cover allHi Phil -
the bases). When I test the autotab in the Message window while the movie is playing, it always returns 0. But you hit the Tab key and it switches to the next editable sprite.
I am ready to believe that the file is corrupted, but it seems like such a weird form of corruption. Just in case there is something I'm overlooking, I thought I'd throw this out to the experts.
Any suggestion welcome

I know you resolved your issue (by rebuilding), but I wanted to venture a guess ...
I know you said that the member prop .autoTab was turned off, but there may be some odd cross-dependence with a sprite (not member) having been marked as editable.
Could any of your original #field sprites been marked as editable at the sprite level at some point?
