I see it often in my mail client, Barebones' Mailsmith 1.1. (More recent versions are Carbonized).
I don't have mailsmith, but I see outdated clipboard in Barebones BBedit, and only in that app, so the common factor could seem to be Barebones.
I've also seen the variance according to the sequence between 'clipping' and launching Barebones SW.
