Okay, originally the announcement of the survey seemed to be a scam (coming from New Zealand with no obvious Macromedia connection) but I was able to verify that it is, in fact, actually legit.
If you visit http://www.macromedia.com/special/director_sweepstakes/ then you will see the reference to the survey. Apparently they are doing this on behalf of Macromedia, but the announcement probably should have come from Macromedia itself in order to avoid any confusion.
But yes, it's safe to do the survey, apparently.
