Is there any way I can allow my users to type as much text as they want into a
field, no matter how many visible characters wide it is? Something like the
google search box, where if you type more into it than can be visible it shifts
and hides text to the left.
There are behaviors that do that, I think, at behaviors.com. You could also try an archive search here for terms such as "entry field".

you also might try modifying the tickertape behavior to change the part that controls the motion to only move when you type a letter (& for this to happen only after the field's 'natural' width is filled up).
