Problem is, if I want to make that crossplatform with both projectors (mac / pc) at rootlevel for convenience, then I have to put all Xtras into one Xtas folder (as I can't have 2 folders with the same name and how would the OSs distinguish anyways).

I'd sure try it to see if it could be done -- just be sure the UDF can handle files with resource forks (which some of your Xtras will probably have). But to the best of my knowledge there's no problem with having, say, FileIO and FileIO.x32 residing in the same Xtras folder.
