I also learned something about the Shockwave plugin installation under OS X.
My Netscape folder had a Plugins folder, with the Shockwave player in it. Bit it isn't supposed to, not under OS X. As soon as I deleted that whole folder, NN started using what it should have been using all along: the Shockwave player in BootDrive:Library:Internet Plug-ins.
The problem went away.
Again, thanks to the good people on the list.

With Netscape Navigator 7.02 under Mac OS X 10.1.5, with the most current Netscape Shockwave plugin 8.5.1 (dated Jan 02), Audio Xtra returns error -8703, "Misc. sound error." The same page works fine with IE 5 under Mas OS X. Is this a known problem? Or is it just me?...
