It might be. Also, the keyboardFocusSprite may need to be constantly tested and set. In my case, I needed that to change nearly all the time because the stakeholder wanted accessibility tabbing pre-MX between buttons and text fields as well as a raft of unique key commands. Each fix begat new bugs, so we eventually abandoned the functionality.

Thanks for simplifying this for me; in case MX doesn't fix this for me, I've filed away your answer.

so one solution to this 'Flash grabbing keyboard focus' issue might
be to have a #text sprite hidden off the visible stage, set to
#editable?
