AFAIK Flash does not do any flushing of memory when it deals with objects on its timeline. From my experience, if Flash loads a timeline object it will remain in the memory, even if that object is no longer in the timeline.
Not sure about objects dynamically loaded in with attachMovie, but I suspect that the memory gets released for these objects.
