communication between 2 shockwave movies on the same html page

hello all,

I have 2 movies on the same html page and need them to communicate back and 
forth.

I thought all that I would have to do is have one change a global and the 
other could pick up on it via a frame script that checked for changes.

This does not seem to work.

Are globals between simultaneously playing shockwave movies possible?

Are there other ways of doing this?
